The RICKUBISCAM! page will usually have the most recent updates, pictures, video, and information about what I've been up to, often including material from
Brazos Bend State Park, and other parks in the area. Material that I post there eventually gets moved to the various other specialized pages listed below.  (this is 1)

Thanks for coming by and visiting my domain. This web domain started as just a spot to post a few pictures, and grew into what it is now--a spot with more than just a few pictures.

When I started this domain, the only way to connect was via dial up and slow dial-up at first. Everything I posted then was configured so dial-up users could see my content over
low-speed connections.
Now I'm upgrading whatever and whenever I can so the old
media looks better.
NEW NOTE 09/13/2022:  Over the last few days, I've done some general cleanup of my domain. Today, I've tweaked most of my pages so they should look better (at least bigger)
on smartphones or tablets.

◄▬ This is new (7/22/2022)!  Search my website with duckduckgo. Use " " to enclose search terms.
Over 20 years, my website has grown into a sort of "living encyclopedia".  I've uploaded thousands of images, hundreds,of video clips-on over 150 separate pages-to my domain.  To be useful, a reference book
-or an encyclopedia-needs an index. But, indexing something the size of this domain
that is still growing and changing would be very difficult. I'm trying this search block as a solution.

-----------------------------------------Nature----------------------------------------------
Note: 07/06/2003  Because of the number of people I meet at the park (This page is NOT directly affiliated to the park--and that's how I prefer it.), a lot of the visitors to this site have come from
there. For those who have enjoyed talking to me in person enough
there to come "visit" me  here, I've added short descriptions of my "nature-related" pages. Also, thanks
for coming by! Y'all should know that as much as you may have enjoyed listening, or talking, to
me at the park, I've also enjoyed listening and talking to you. Thanks! --07/06/2003
Note: 2/08/2022  Over the past 20 years or so (it's 2022 now), I've been a volunteer park ranger at one of the most biologically-diverse areas one could ever find. I've been fortunate enough to witness
the activities of totally-free wildlife--and have captured some of that in photos and video. Some of those are shared on these pages. I hope to inform and entertain.
So...welcome!  --Richard Dashnau

Mammals--general 2003-2024---------------------------------------------------------

Mammals--OTTERS 2002 - 2022----------------------------------------------------------

Alligators 2003-2024 (many pages linked on this page)-----------------------------------------

The alligator pages started out as just a few pictures of alligators (inspired, as many of my other subjects, by my need for RICKUBISCAM material).
Since then, I've seen the alligators do many things, and learned a lot about them while trying to understand them. Visit these pages and you'll probably
be surprised. Follow me as I discover more about these wonderful animals.
This page shows the alligators at Brazos Bend State Park near park landmarks.
Here's my alligator video--40 minutes (mp4 1.1gb)
An edited "live" recording in 2011 of my program (narration is a bit rough)  "It's Hard to Be an Alligator" (60min)
(mp4 850mb)

Fish--ray-finned("bony" fish) 2002 - 2024--------------------------------------------------------

Fish--cartilaginous---Cookie-cutter shark attack! 2001 (samples collected in 1991)

I didn't make this up. There is a fish known as a cookiecutter shark. I met this odd creature (well, its handiwork) in--of all places--the building where I worked.

Spiders------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spiders 1: 2002-2010 Spiders 6: Fishing Spiders 2002 - 2021
Spiders 2: Nephila Clavipes 2002 - 2020 Spiders 7: Spitting Spiders 2005
Spiders 3: 2003 - 2006 Spiders 8: Medically significant spiders 2018
Spiders 4: Jumping Spiders: 2002 - 2023
Spiders 5: Other orb weavers  2003 - 2022

I did most of the spider viewing in the early-2000's. I was able to take some pretty good macro shots, and was learning a lot about spiders in general.
Since then, I've seen other people much better macro photos than I was, and discovered that my newer cameras were less versatile for the close-up shots
without investing in more hardware-which was an odd development. So, I moved away from spider studies (though I still read them.). Every now and then,
I'll still capture an interesting spider behavior. Here's a link to my old
spider video--30minutes (mp4).

The MOST toxic caterpillar in the United States! 2003 - 2014--------------------------------------------

If you touch one of these, you most probably won't die, but you might wish you could cut off what you've touched it with.

Large For Its Type, and It Sprays Toxic Chemicals! 2002, 2022  ----------------------------------------------------------

Our climate encourages all types of animals to thrive. I love it here, and yes, we do have insects that spray
toxic chemicals. Here's one of them.

Cowkillers and other ants,bees,wasps 2006 - 2021--paper wasps (Polistes) 2014 - 2023

No, they don't really kill cows. But the other ones do kill cicadas...eventually.

Insects--(non-toxic) 2002 - 2023 --Mantises 2005 - 2019--Ant Lions 2005 - 2024---Water Insects 2004 - 2024

Insects that don't inject or spray toxins that affect humans.

 Worms--flatworms, horsehair, leeches, etc. 2001 - 2024------------------------------------------------
--

What's long, flat, and slimy; lives in your garden, and eats earthworms? Or;  what's long, thin, and hairlike, and maybe as creepy as a film like ALIEN?

Apple Snails (Pomacea sp.) 2021 - 2023----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the summer of 2021, I met the potential invaders known as Apple Snails. This is what I've learned.

Ichnology--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The study of the traces animals leave in their environment;  footprints, scratches, burrows, mounds, nests, turds, etc. (Yes...turds).

Invertebrates!! (those that don't have their own page yet) 2003 - 2021------------------------------

This is where I'll put all the crustaceans, molluscs, bryozoans, jellyfish, etc. that I might encounter and that don't have a page yet.

Critters BBSP and elsewhere (general critters)-----------------------------------------------------

This is where I'll put those other critter that I feel don't fit in one of the other pages--until I get enough material to give them page.

I have created all the content(with a few exceptions) on *my* pages. That means that I have either shot the video, taken the pictures, or performed any demonstrations. That also means that I've
edited every image on these pages, that is, I've cropped, enhanced, resized, labeled, and otherwise optimized every single image on my pages. That means that I've also edited, enhanced,
extracted images from, recoded (in two or three or four formats) every video clip  on these pages. I've also, for better or worse, composed all the text and layout on these pages. I've had to learn
to use the various utilities for doing all of this, as well as finding and legally getting copies of them in the first place. I'm also  responsible for all the hardware used to do this. I also pay for the server
space used for all of this information as well as for my access to it. It costs a lot of money, time, and effort to put these pages out here...hopefully to entertain and to  inform. And this is *after* I
spend time at my "day job"--which has nothing to do with the internet.  People are welcome to the information here, but if it's used elsewhere, then I deserve credit for my effort. If it is used for
someone else's profit, then I deserve part of that profit. *That* is the purpose of my notice about copyright.
