Quick history:
I
started in a
Chinese
martial arts school in January of 1986. I left the school in
January
of 1996, after 10 years and one day, for various reasons. Master Maing
Yul Jung was my teacher.
This is given more detail in the other three of my martial arts pages: External
Martial Arts Internal
Martial arts hands,
feet, stances
Since
I've passed 65 years old, my health is being monitored more frequently.
A common observation/recommendation regards the amount of
exercise. I've decided to describe my
daily exercise routine. Well--I try to do it 4 times a week, anyway. This
routine has been in place-in some form-since 1986. In the years since
then it has gone from 2 hours--to
45 minutes-to the current 90 minutes.
For the last 2 years I've followed this routine on most days
(weather permitting), but it averages to about 4 days a week. Some of
the major issues
that have affected the routine are listed here:
In 1999 I've had to get knee surgery (page
here) due
to injuries from a car accident. As a result, I've lost some function
of
one leg, and so cannot do many of the exercises I used to.
In
2004,
the knee hadn't improved much, and there has been some
damage
to the hip as well. That certainly put a kink on my practice schedule!
I had to curtail
quite a bit
of this activity.
June, 2005,
I
had one hip replaced.
August, 2018--I
had the other hip replaced. Details of my hip recovery can be seen on
the Rickubitanium
Page.
And now I'm old. It's a bit of a surprise to hear someone on the news
described as "elderly", and then have them call out the same age as mine.
This
page describes one full exercise session. A session like this takes
about 90 minutes. This page is a snapshot view of that day.
For
some sessions, I'll substitute other exercises,
or spend more
time on some things, less time on others. But it's still about 90
minutes. The list below has 30 parts. There is a
separate
video clip showing each exercise.
There will be brief text
descriptions of each part shown below (near the pictures).
These
clips were all filmed on 06/29/2023. I started at 10:00am, but it was
still hot. Some of the
exercises are described or demonstrated in more depth on the other pages.
I
also take a 2-mile walk for 50 minutes 6 days a week at sunrise
(weather permitting). That's when I walk with my dog.
